If you are looking for 16MnCr5 steel plate stock rather than a new mill production, the first questions are usually simple: which thicknesses are available, what are the original plate sizes, and how quickly can the material be delivered?

Otai keeps approximately 2,000 tons of 16MnCr5 steel plate in regular stock. The current stock plate range covers 8–150 mm thickness, mainly in hot-rolled black condition. Full big plates are as rolled, or cut into flat bars and shorter lengths to match your order requests.

Stock changes as plates are allocated to different orders. Before we quote, we check the required thickness, big plate size, heat number and available quantity against the latest warehouse record.

What 16MnCr5 Plate Sizes Are Available from Stock?

Our regular 16MnCr5 plate stock is arranged around the following range:

Stock item Regular range
Material 16MnCr5 / 1.7131 steel plate
Approximate stock 2,000 tons
Thickness 8–150 mm
Full plate width 2,000–2,300 mm
Full plate length 6–12 m  ( can cut to your length )
Delivery condition Hot rolled
Surface Black
Common flat bar widths 310 / 410 / 510 / 610 mm
Cut length for 20 ft container loading 3–5.8 m

The 2,000-ton figure is the total regular inventory, not the quantity available in every thickness. Some sizes move faster than others. If you send us the size and quantity you need, we can check the actual plates available instead of giving you a general stock reply.

16MnCr5 is material number 1.7131 under DIN EN 10084. For a stock order, however, the grade name is only one part of the check. The heat number, plate sizes, delivery condition and test certificate should all match the material being offered.

You Can Buy Big Plates or Flat Bars ( we can cut any size you need )

A big plate is usually 2,000–2,300 mm wide. That works well when you need the original mill width or plan to cut the material in your own warehouse.

Many distributors do not need that full width. It takes time for you to cut to flat bar and it’s difficult to dispose the waste material in your country. While here we are equipped to cut to your sizes directly and save your cost and time. Besides, in China there are lots of scrap steel material recycle companies who can take those waste material for new steel material production.

So, for our customers, we can cut stock plates into flat bars. Common widths are 310, 410, 510 and 610 mm, leaving practical machining allowance around the nominal 300, 400, 500 and 600 mm sizes. Other flat bar widths can also be arranged according to your order, but the cost would be little higher.

This gives you two practical choices:

  • take the original full plate when flexibility matters more than immediate size;
  • order flat bars cut from plate when you want material closer to the sizes your customers normally buy and save time and cost.

The second option can reduce the cutting work in your warehouse and make the stock easier to handle. Before cutting, we confirm the finished width, length, quantity and any dimensional allowance you need. We should not assume that a nominal 500 mm component means you want a flat bar cut to exactly 500 mm.

Shorter Lengths Can Make 20 ft Container Loading Easier

Original plate lengths are normally between 6 and 12 metres, out of mill production. It’s better for us to cut to any different length to customers from domestic market and overseas and there are less waste material for us. However, long plates are not always the most economical format for an export order.

When required, we can cut the plates into 3–5.8 m lengths. These lengths are suitable for planning a 20 ft container and can avoid using a 40 ft container only because the original plate is too long.

The final container plan still depends on total weight, plate thickness, bundle arrangement and local transport requirements. The point is not that every order must use a 20 ft container. The advantage is that the plate length can be adjusted before shipment, so you have another way to balance freight cost, unloading and warehouse handling.

For a distributor, shorter lengths may also be easier to store and resell. If your local customers usually buy 3-6 meters material, tell us before cutting. We can check how to use the original plate more efficiently and reduce unnecessary waste material.

Delivery Time Depends on Whether Cutting Is Required

For full big plates already available in the warehouse, delivery can be arranged immediately after the order, documents and loading plan are confirmed.

If the plate is in stock but needs to be cut into flat bars or shorter lengths, the usual processing time is 3–7 days. The actual time depends on the thickness, number of cuts, order quantity and current cutting schedule.

If the required size is not available and we have to arrange new production, the normal lead time is approximately 30–45 days.

These are three different supply situations:

Supply route Typical lead time
Full big plate available from stock Ready for delivery after order confirmation
Stock plate requiring cutting Usually 3–7 days
New production when stock is unavailable Usually 30–45 days

How We Confirm the Material Before Shipment

For a 16MnCr5 steel plate stock order, we can provide the relevant mill test certificate and maintain heat-number traceability for the material supplied. If your order requires third-party inspection, SGS or another agreed inspection company can be arranged before shipment.

Before confirming the order, you can ask us to check:

  • the actual plate thickness, width and length;
  • the available quantity;
  • the heat number and corresponding certificate;
  • the hot-rolled black surface condition and photos;
  • the proposed cutting sizes and allowance;
  • the estimated cutting completion date;
  • the packing and container-loading plan.

This is more useful for you and feel safe. But one thing is inventory changes every day. A reliable stock quotation should connect the available plate, heat number, quantity and processing plan to your exact inquiry.

Send Us the Size You Need

For a current stock check, send us:

  • required thickness;
  • full plate or flat bar width;
  • required length;
  • total quantity;
  • destination port;
  • any certificate or inspection requirement.

We will check the latest 16MnCr5 steel plate stock, confirm whether your order can be supplied as full plates or cut from existing plates, and prepare a delivery and container-loading option for your review.
