DIN 30CrNiMo8 steel is an alloy steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products.

  • DIN 30CrNiMo8 material is one structural steel with medium hardenability designed for heavy duty components, characterized by high elasticity and strength properties reaching over 1560 N/mm2 at small diameters. When it is softened, the hardness reaches max. 248 HRB.
  • It is also characterized by its resistance to variable loads and impacts.
  • However, it is not good for welding and it ultimately requires additional preheating.

Otai now stocks 30CrNiMo8 steel round bar for immediate shipment with reliable quality and availability of common diameter. Hot rolled or heat treated round bar are both available. Here are some details of 30CrNiMo8:

4. 30CrNiMo8 Properties

  • Properties (average values) at ambient temperature

Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210

Density [g/cm3]: 7.82

5. Forging of DIN 30CrNiMo8 Alloy Steel

Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.

6. Heat Treatment

  • Soft Annealing

Heat to 650-700oC, cool slowly. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 248.

  • Normalizing

Temperature: 850-880oC.

  • Hardening

Harden from a temperature of 830-880oC followed by oil quenching.

  • Tempering

Tempering temperature: 540-680oC.

7. Applications of 30CrNiMo8 Round Bar

For permanently stressed components with large cross sections for automotive and mechanical engineering. For economic performance under severe dynamic stress, parts must be designed for optimum strength or toughness.
